Cycloalkenes are alkenes whose molecules are ring-shaped. Like all alkenes, they have a double bond between two carbon atoms in the molecule.

Manufacturing

Cycloalkenes are mostly produced by elimination reactions , e.g. B. from cycloalkanols through the acid-catalyzed elimination of water. The ring-closing metathesis of α, ω-dialkenes also gives cycloalkenes.

Reactions

As with all alkenes, addition reactions can easily take place on the double bond of cycloalkenes .

The polymerization of cycloalkenes is usually preceded by a metathesis , more precisely a ring-opening metathesis . Only then does the actual polymerization take place.
