Cyprinus yilongensis is an extinct freshwater fish species from the carp family . It wasendemic tothe Yì Lóng Hú (Yilong Lake) in the Chinese province of Yunnan .

features

The length was 10 to 13 cm. The area above the eyes was orange, the head and top were gray-black or deep green. The flanks were silvery white. The pectoral and pelvic fins were a little yellowish. The head was conical and the muzzle pointed. The lower jaw protruded a little. There were two pairs of barbels. The last simple ray of the dorsal and anal fins was spiky and jagged at the rear edge.

Way of life

Cyprinus yilongensis mostly inhabited the deep water of the lake, where there was no water weed. The diet consisted mainly of plankton . The spawning season was between April and May.

status

Cyprinus yilongensis was described in 1977 on the basis of type specimens collected between 1963 and 1964. The extinction is probably due to overfishing, water pollution and a temporary drying out of the Yì Lóng Hú for 20 days in 1981. After searching for the species in 1983 and 1984 with no results, it was officially declared extinct in 1993.
