The Cyriak Chapel in Erfurt is a so-called diaspora chapel designed by the architect Otto Bartning . Built in 1950, it belongs to the series church follow-up program of the Bartning-Notkirchen . It is located in the southwest of Erfurt in the Cyriak settlement and is a church of the Evangelical Preacher Congregation .

particularities

During the construction of the chapel , with the consent of Bartning, the installation of the series-typical altar niches was dispensed with from the start and instead a small apartment was formed from the rooms of the sacristy , kitchenette and entrance room in which a community nurse lived. The widening of the apartment in 1963 also changed the external shape of the chapel: If the typical shape of the Bartning diaspora chapels is determined by the asymmetrical roof, which slopes straight down on one side and is exposed on the other by a kink, then the Cyriak chapel has as only this kink on both sides.

The Cyriaksburg chapel since 8 March 2001 monument . It has largely been preserved in its original condition.

In 2009 the OBAK exhibition "Otto Bartning and the (other) Bauhaus" took place in the chapel .
