Cyril Yapi (born February 18, 1980 in Lorient ) is a former French football player .

Career

Yapi moved up in 1998 despite fluctuating performances in the youth team together with the future national player Anthony Réveillère in the first team of Stade Rennes . Although he made his first division debut in his first season and was used sporadically, he could not increase his playing time significantly in the second season, so that he was loaned to the second division Stade Laval in 2000 . There he ran regularly, but could not convince those responsible for a further commitment. After his return to Rennes, the situation did not improve for Yapi, which is why he decided to leave the club when his contract expired in 2003. He signed with the Italian second division club Como Calcio . He had a mediocre season without counting among the regulars in a large squad. His career ended in 2004 when he was arrested.

Act and trial

Following his arrest, Yapi was tried in France on charges of beating his wife with a baseball bat with his cousin in January 2002. She suffered a double fracture of the skull. The court ruled this as attempted murder , found Yapi guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison in 2005. Nothing is known about the background to the crime.
