Cyrus Samimi

Cyrus Samimi (* 1963 in Nuremberg ) is a German geographer and university professor.

Life

Samimi graduated from high school in 1983 . From 1985 he studied geography, sociology and English at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 1987 he switched to the combination of geography, geology and biology. In 1990 he received his master's degree . In 1995 he received his doctorate with the dissertation "Spacetime modeling of current evapotranspiration and soil moisture with Landsat-TM - case study in northwestern Iran". In 2002 he completed his habilitation . The subject of his habilitation thesis was “The pasture potential in Gutu District (Zimbabwe). Possibilities and limits of modeling using Landsat-TM ”. He then worked from 2002 to 2007 as a senior assistant at the Institute for Geography at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. In the 2004/05 winter semester, he took on the position of a C3 professor for physical geography at the Institute for Physical Geography at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . From August 2007 to August 2008, he represented the W2 professorship in Ecological Services in the elite course in Global Change Ecology at the University of Bayreuth . From October 2008 to February 2010 he was visiting professor for geoecology at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna . In March 2010 he was finally appointed Professor of Geoecology at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna. In March 2013 he was appointed professor of climatology at the University of Bayreuth.
