The Czech Open was a golf tournament of the European Tour that by 2011 every year in the Czech Republic was held. The tournament first appeared on the European Tour calendar as the Chemapol Trophy Czech Open between 1994 and 1997 and was the first European Tour event to take place east of the Iron Curtain after the fall of the Berlin Wall . The first three events were held at the Mariánské Lázně Golf Club in Mariánské Lázně , before moving to the Prague Karlstein Golf Club outside of Prague , which is dominated by the Karlštejn Castle .
The Czech Open was suspended in 1998 at the insistence of sponsors after the Czech Republic was hit by a severe flood the year before , and consequently lost its place in the tour calendar. Last year's prize money was 804,788 British pounds , which was above average on the European Tour at that time.
After the Czech Open 2008 was held on the Alps Tour , the tournament returned to the European Tour in 2009. The new venue was the Prosper Golf Resort in Čeladná , designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez , where at the end of July they played for a total of 2.5 million euros in prize money . In 2009 the tournament was called the Moravia Silesia Open and has been called the Czech Open again since 2010 .
