Déirdre de Búrca (born October 1963 ) is an Irish politician and was a senator in the 23rd Seanad Éireann from 2007 to 2010 .

Originally from Loughlinstown, County Dublin , de Búrca was a primary school teacher. After three years in the business, she began studying psychology at University College Dublin . She then worked as a psychologist in the rehabilitation sector for over ten years .

Her political career began in 1999 when she was first elected to Wicklow County Council for the Green Party . In 2004 she was re-elected and elected to the Bray Town Council . In 2007, her candidacy for a seat in the 30th Dáil Éireann failed, as in 2002.

In the course of her party's participation in government, de Búrca was appointed Senator in the 23rd Seanad Éireann by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in 2007 and was one of the first two green senators alongside Dan Boyle . In the Bray Town Council she was replaced by the green politician Steve Matthews.

In 2009 she ran unsuccessfully in the European Parliament elections . On February 12, 2010, de Búrca resigned from her position as senator because she no longer agreed with the government policy of the Green Party. She remains a member of Wicklow County Council .
