Rome department

Rome (Italian Roma , German Rome ) was a French department from 1810 with the capital Rome .

The department arose on July 15, 1809 from parts of the Papal States . Until it was renamed on February 17, 1810 , it was referred to as the Departement du Tibre ( Tiber Department). In 1814 the area came back to the Papal States. Its former territory now belongs to Italy and the Vatican State .
