Votive Church (Bishop's Basilica / Church of Solemnity)

The basilica , built in neo-Romanesque style, is the fourth largest church in Hungary and can accommodate 5000 people. Construction was decided as early as 1880, one year after the destructive flood, but construction work could not begin until 1913. It was completed in 1930. The Votive Church was supposed to protect the city from further floods after the flood disaster. The church bell is the second largest in the country, weighing 86 quintals . In the choir of the church there is a masterful mosaic depicting the Madonna , the Madonna in fur , in an embroidered peasant coat (the Szűr ) and red Szeged slippers. To the left of the altar is the statue "Christ on the Cross", which was awarded the Grand Prize at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. The organ, with five keys and 9050 pipes, is one of the largest in Europe and is the focus of frequent organ concerts.

Demetrius Tower (Dömötör-torony)

During excavations for the construction of the votive church, the octagonal Dömötör-torony (St. Demetrius tower) was found. It is the remnant of the former church of St. Dömötör from the 13th century and thus the oldest known building in Szeged.

Szeged Pantheon

The National Memorial Hall , the Pantheon, was built in a U-shape around the Votive Church . Here over 90 of the most famous Hungarian personalities from literature, art and science, business and politics have been immortalized as sculptures or in reliefs.

Music clock

On the face opposite the cathedral, the music clock designed by Szegedin students and teachers, which plays for nine minutes after the bells of the cathedral ring at 12:15 and 16:15 and you can admire the imposing figures of the music clock.

Greek Orthodox Serbian Church

It was built between 1773 and 1778 and, with its icon panels, is one of the most beautiful in the country. The iconostasis carved from pear wood by Jován Popovics comprises 80 icons.
