Dölf Weder (born December 26, 1950 in Burgdorf BE ) is a former Swiss pastor, church council president and general secretary of the European YMCA association.

Life

At the age of eleven he met the youth work of the YMCA St. Gallen. The YMCA became formative for his active youth and for his whole life. After graduating from high school at the St. Gallen Cantonal School, he studied economics and social sciences at the University of St. Gallen, theology, social psychology and applied computer science at the University of Zurich. In 1979 he completed his studies with a doctorate in practical theology on the subject of "Christian youth work" and - after a vicariate in Zurich-Seebach and Baar - with an ordination as an evangelical reformed VDM (pastor).

From 1979 to 1986 Dölf Weder was secretary of the YMCA (Cevi) St. Gallen. From 1987 to 1990 he was the parish priest in Wil SG. Later he was also a religion teacher at the Cantonal School of St. Gallen .

After Weder had represented Cevi Switzerland (YMCA) since the 1970s on a European and partly world level, in 1990 he became General Secretary of the European YMCA Federation, the European YMCA umbrella organization with around two million program participants, based in St. Gallen , since 1999 in Prague . The opening up of Eastern Europe meant a great challenge and almost doubled the number of national associations in the 1990s.

In the summer of 1998, Weder became a part-time councilor of the Evangelical Reformed Church in the canton of St. Gallen and was responsible for the adult education department until the end of 1999. He has been President of the Church Council since 2000. In 2012 he announced his resignation at the end of February 2014.
