Dörhai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dörhai is a high medieval rampart in the southern Sackwald in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony . It is located near the ruins of Burg Winzenburg .

Location and building description

The ramparts are located on a high plateau next to the Rennstieg between Winzenburg and Hornsen at an altitude of around 300 m.

The wall is about 1.5 m high. Masonry is not visible. The wall was probably secured with additional palisades for defense. No wall was built to the southwest because the slope of the blunt mountain nose drops off steeply there.
