The Sackwald is one to 374 m above sea level. NN high ridge of the Lower Saxony mountains in the district of Hildesheim , Lower Saxony ( Germany ). It is named after the Alfeld district of Sack .
Together with the Seven Mountains and the foothills, it is part of the geological structure of the Sack Hollow .
geography
The Sackwald lies on the eastern edge of the Leinebergland in the Lower Saxon Bergland . It is located between Alfeld an der Leine in the north-west and Bad Gandersheim, a little further away, in the south-east.
The Sackwald is surrounded by the foothills in the north, the southeastern foothills of the Hildesheim Forest in the north-northeast, Sauberge in the northeast, Harplage in the east-northeast, Heber in the east, Helleberg in the south and southwest, Selter (beyond the Leinetal) in the southwest and seven mountains in the northwest. From a topographical point of view, they merge seamlessly into the last-mentioned ridge . Within and on the edge of the Sackwald several brooks arise , whose water sooner or later flow into the western Leine or the northeast flowing Innerste ; thus the ridge lies on the watershed between the two rivers.
The uninhabited sack forest is criss-crossed by several forest and hiking trails on which you can explore the wooded landscape. These include the Rennstieg , which leads through the forest area, and the "Hohe Schanze historical educational trail". The ridge can be reached via country roads that branch off from federal roads 3 and 64 , mostly winding roads that surround the wooded area and , for example, connect Alfeld, Freden and Lamspringe.
