The foothills are one to 353  m above sea level. NHN high ridge of the Lower Saxony mountains in the Lower Saxony district of Hildesheim ( Germany ).

Together with the Seven Mountains and the Sack Forest , the foothills are part of the geological structure of the Sack Hollow .

geography

location

The Vorberge ridge rises on the eastern edge of the Leinebergland in the Lower Saxon uplands . It lies between Alfeld an der Leine in the southwest and Sibbesse an der Alme in the north.

The foothills are surrounded by the mountain ranges Hildesheimer Wald in the north, Sauberge in the east-northeast, Harplage in the east-southeast, Heber in the southeast, Sackwald in the south and Sieben Bergen in the west. From a topographical point of view, they merge seamlessly into the last-mentioned ridge . Within and on the edge of the foothills, several brooks arise , the water of which sooner or later flow into the western Leine or the northeast flowing Innerste ; thus they lie on the watershed between the two rivers.

Natural allocation

The foothills belong in the natural spatial main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37) and in the main unit Alfelder Bergland (377) to the sub-unit Seven Mountains and Sack Forest (377.4).

On the southwestern roof of the foothills, about 700 m northeast of the Alfeld district of Sack, the ruins of the Schulenberg Chapel, probably from the second half of the 15th century ( ; rarely known as the Schulenburg Chapel ), are located. Lined by some trees, they are located in a field at about 185  m above sea level on the lower southwest part of the Holzerberg (Holzer Berge) , the southwest flank of the Wernershöhe ( 327.9  m ). Of the ruins, which may have been part of an earlier settlement, only the 50 cm thick walls made of limestone remain.

Traffic and walking

The uninhabited foothills can be reached on the winding state road  485, which branches off from Bundesstraße 3 in Alfeld and connects Alfeld in a north-east direction with Sibbesse and with Hildesheim further north . They are criss-crossed by several forest and hiking trails on which you can explore the wooded landscape.
