The Alte Schlosspark Wrisbergholzen is a nature reserve and a garden monument in the Lower Saxony community of Sibbesse in the Hildesheim district .
description
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 078 is 9 hectares in size. It is located in the east of the Westfeld district of Wrisbergholzen and protects the old park of the Wrisbergholzen Castle . This complex, designed as a landscape park , emerged from a baroque garden that was laid out to the east of the palace in connection with the construction of today's palace complex in the mid-18th century.
The redesign to an English landscape park , which also went hand in hand with an expansion of the garden, took place towards the end of the 18th century. In the second half of the 19th century the park was expanded again and partially redesigned. The landscape designer and later “Urban Garden Director of Berlin”, Gustav Meyer , was involved in the plans for the redesign .
After the Second World War , the palace gardens and palace fell into a deep slumber . The castle owner, Count von Goertz-Wrisberg , no longer had the means to maintain the garden. For decades, the park has been in a neglected and overgrown condition, although it is an outstanding example of a historic landscape garden. The garden area has been a nature reserve since October 4, 1984. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Hildesheim district.
Maintenance concept by the Association for the Preservation of Architectural Monuments
In 1984 the Association for the Preservation of Architectural Monuments was founded in Wrisbergholzen . The organization, which has around 20 active members, works on a voluntary basis to preserve the historical buildings in the entire ensemble of Wrisbergholzen Castle. Since 1996 the members of the association have been giving expert tours in the palace gardens in summer, especially on the Open Monument Day . Since 1999 the association has been taking care of the maintenance and repair of the palace gardens.
As part of a student project at the University of Hanover , an inventory was carried out in the palace gardens from 1993 to 1995. On the basis of this inventory, a maintenance concept was developed in order to preserve the area as a landscape park.
