Am Rote Steine is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city ​​of Hildesheim .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 109 is about 30  hectares . Since 2006 it has been largely part of the FFH area “Beuster (with NSG“ Am Roten Steine ​​”)”. The area has been a nature reserve since August 14, 1986. On January 12, 2017, the nature reserve was expanded to include the course of the Beuster river , which flows into the Innerste in the nature reserve , up to the city limits on federal road 243 . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the city of Hildesheim.

The nature reserve is located in the south of the city of Hildesheim in the Innersteaue between the districts of Ochtersum and Itzum . It places a section of the floodplain and a steep slope on the northeast bank of the Innerste as well as the lowest section of the Beuster under protection. Most of the floodplain is used as grassland . In the north of the nature reserve there is a remnant of a mostly willow -shaped softwood floodplain . The slope on the northeast bank of the Innerste is characterized by semi-arid grass , which is partly overgrown with bushes. In the area of ​​the slope, swell-damp areas can be found. The Beuster is a habitat and a. of brook lamprey and bullhead .

In the south, the nature reserve is bordered by the county road 302, in the southwest by the federal road 243 and in the north by the Hildesheim – Goslar railway line .

An approximately six kilometer long nature trail with several information boards runs through the area .
