The amphibian habitats on the Hohenwarte are a nature reserve in Lower Saxony spots Delligsen and in the unincorporated area Grünenplan in the district of Holzminden and in spots Duingen in Hildesheim .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 223 is approximately 78  hectares in size. It is almost congruent with the 77 hectare FFH area of the same name . The area has been under nature protection since November 22, 2018. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Holzminden and Hildesheim.

The nature reserve is located west of Alfeld (Leine) on the edge of the Hils . It places an area with partially abandoned clay pits under protection. In the area there are several bodies of water created by clay mining as well as temporary small and micro bodies of water. Furthermore, several stream valleys and wooded slopes of the Hils are included in the nature reserve. There are several ponds with aquatic vegetation in the forest areas .

The nature reserve is the habitat of various amphibians . Here are u. a. Yellow-bellied toad , midwife toad , great crested newt and palmate newt home. Furthermore, the waters are the habitat of various dragonflies . They also harbor an occurrence of the noble crayfish .

The brooks are characterized as natural flowing waters. They are partly accompanied by alder-ash alluvial forests with black alder and ash , in their herb layer u. a. Winkelsegge , Bachsternmiere and High Cowslip can be found. Otherwise beech and oak-hornbeam forests falter on the slopes of the Hils . The beech forests are developed as grove or woodruff beech forests. In places in the Hutewald nature reserve, relics in the form of old oaks can be found. The forests have a high proportion of old and dead wood . Alder and willow forests grow in the swampy areas of the former clay pit .

The forests are managed by forestry. The area along the Knippsieggraben is excluded from use. Partial areas in the nature reserve are used for agriculture. The resumption of clay mining is permitted in the priority areas for raw material extraction extending into the nature reserve .
