The Wätzumer Tonkuhle is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Algermissen in the Hildesheim district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 110 is 10.5 hectares in size. The area has been a nature reserve since August 28, 1986. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Hildesheim district.
The nature reserve is located southeast of Hanover between Algermissen and Wätzum , a district of Algermissen. It provides an abandoned clay pit with two ponds and the adjoining shore areas Verlandungs zones under protection. Part of the area is extensively grazed.
The former clay pit is located in the middle of intensively used agricultural land . It provides in this landscape a valuable retreat area for endangered animal and plant species. More than a fallow strips along the Alpe Bach nature reserve with the pond at is brick factory on the northern edge of Algermissen connected.
