The Giesener Teiche are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city ​​of Hildesheim .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 081 was originally 11  hectares in size. On August 20, 2015, it was enlarged to 17.6 hectares. The area is completely part of the FFH area "Haseder Busch, Giesener Berge, Gallberg, Finkenberg". In the south it borders on the nature reserve " Lange Dreisch and Osterberg " in northern most part of the conservation area "Giesen Hills and ponds." The area has been a nature reserve since November 15, 1984. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the city of Hildesheim.

The nature reserve is located in the north of the city of Hildesheim between Himmelsthür and Giesen . It puts a stream valley under protection. The stream, which is dammed into two ponds in the nature reserve, rises a little west of the nature reserve and flows into the innermost part of the nature reserve about a kilometer east . The ponds were created by the episcopal estate Steuerwald by the end of the 18th century at the latest and used for fish farming. The ponds and the largely open pastures in the nature reserve are relics of the historical cultural landscape of the Hildesheimer Bergland.

The area lies on red claystone with gypsum, in which a sinkhole has formed, and on limestone and marlstone . It is characterized by an ecological diversity that exists in a very small space. Sun can be found along the watercourse and the ponds reed zones, riparian and Hochstaudenfluren , sedge , alder carr and wet meadows . Semi- arid grass grows on the slopes of the Bachtal and is regularly grazed with sheep and goats for maintenance.

In the nature reserve settle u. a. Swamp heart leaf as well as the orchids stately orchid and bee garlic . The area is habitat and a. the wild cat . There are also various birds, including red-backed killer , meadow pipit , skylark and little grebe . Swampy areas are the habitat of the narrow diaper snail . In the ponds lives crested newt . The ponds are also the habitat of various dragonflies . Butterflies are in the nature reserve and the adjacent Giesener mountains among other species by Golden Eight , Colias Sareptensis , C-Falter , Big and Small fritillary , fritillary , Nierenfleck Hairstreak , Geißkleebläuling , Little Sonnenröschenbläuling , Chalkhill Blue , Lulworth Skipper , comma Large-headed butterflies , Esparsette rams and six-spotted rams are represented.

Kleeblatt nature experience area

The nature reserve is part of the Kleeblatt nature experience area, which extends in the north of Hildesheim and in parts of the community of Giesen between Osterberg and Innerste. It includes the nature reserves " Haseder Busch ", " Mastberg and Innersteaue ", "Lange Dreisch and Osterberg" and "Giesener Teiche" and the Giesener Berge and is divided into four subject areas: "Water world" (nature reserve "Haseder Busch"), "Weidewald "(Nature reserve" Mastberg and Innersteaue ")," Open Pasture "(nature reserve" Lange Dreisch and Osterberg ") and" Erdzeitreise "(nature reserve" Giesener Teiche "and Giesener Berge).
