Subdivision breakdown

history

Almstedt was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1151. The name of the place means "place at the Alme".

At the beginning of the 20th century Almstedt had 606 inhabitants.

On November 7, 1901, the railway line from Elze to Gronau was extended to Bodenburg , and a train station was built between Almstedt and Segeste. Initially, five pairs of passenger trains stopped here a day, and an existing lime works in Almstedt was given its own siding for its freight traffic. On September 24, 1966, however, passenger traffic on the railway line was discontinued, and in 1974 goods traffic as well.

On March 1, 1974, the municipality of Segeste was incorporated.

On November 1, 2016, Almstedt was merged with the other parishes of the Sibbesse parish to form the new parish Sibbesse.

coat of arms

The municipality was awarded the municipal coat of arms on July 30, 1938 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on December 5th of the same year.

Almstedt coat of arms
Blazon : Split . In fronta golden sheaf standingon green , behind on gold a stalked green clover leaf (1: 2). "
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms is based on the seal of the count's court of those von Steinberg-Bodenburg zu Almstedt, which was used until the middle of the 19th century. The meaning of the coat of arms by the municipality is nice: The symbol of the fertility of the grain-bearing district is connected with a farmer's luck symbol, the clover leaf.

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • The Elze – Bodenburg railway with the Almstedt-Segeste railway station, inaugurated in 1901, was given up in 1966 for passenger traffic and in 1974 also for goods traffic; Meanwhile, however, a museum railway runs several times a year on a renovated section, the Almetalbahn of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Historische Eisenbahn e. V. (AHE) . In the 1980s the station building was relocated from the south to the north side of the tracks.
  • Also worth seeing is the St. Mauritius Church, built from rubble stones in 1618 and enlarged in 1819. It has a baroque altar from 1760, a pulpit from 1784 and an organ from 1752. Its tower was built in the 14th century and also served as a defense tower. Late Gothic wall paintings from around 1400 can be seen in its sacristy . The bell that was cast in 1748 originally rang in the parish church in Nemmersdorf in East Prussia (today in Russian: Mayakowskoje), where it was removed for war purposes. It survived the end of the war and found its new ringing place here.
  • In Almstedt's tree-lined main street, in the middle of which the Alme flows, numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses are noteworthy.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

The most important connection between Almstedt and the regional road network is state road  482; The nearest highways are the main roads B 243 in the east and the B 3 in the West. The high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg runs through the municipality without a stop. However, it has a depot here called Almstedt.
