history

The place is first mentioned as Hönde in 1170 and appears in 1294 as Hutcinghese , 1305 Honesse , 1317 Honse 1369 Hotcingessen . The origin and meaning of the place name are unclear.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of the formerly independent municipality of Hönze comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all the coats of arms in the Hanover region . The municipality was awarded the coat of arms on November 29, 1938 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on January 26, 1939.

Hönze coat of arms
Blazon : "In silver, a red diagonal right-hand bar , covered with a silver meander band formedfrom three intertwined spirals , the upper spiral of which opens to the left , the lower one to the right."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The village of Hönze is located in the middle of a prehistoric, richly documented landscape, and early Germanic barrows are not far from the village. These facts make the use of the spiral meander ribbon, repeatedly used in Germanic ornamentation, in the coat of arms of the village of Hönze appear to be justified.

Buildings

Altar of the chapel
  • In the village, the Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul Chapel with a saddle roof , two buttresses and a roof turret supplied with slips is worth seeing. It was renovated in 1638, 1753, 1830 and from 1978 onwards and inaugurated again in 1986. The altar of the chapel, which has a wooden barrel vault and around 50 seats, dates from 1684. Originally the pulpit was located directly above the altar, but it was later placed on the left in front of it.
