history

The place was first mentioned in 989 as "Sighebretthehusen".

The local church was built in the 12th century. The place got growth in the 16th century through the sedation of traveling people , i. H. Sinti from the Eichsfeld . These had specialized in the repair of pots and kettles, so that they were called " tinkers ". Even today, traces of them can be traced back to the ancient surnames.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Sibbesse numbered 751 people.

On November 7, 1901, the Bodenburg-Gronau section of the Elze-Bodenburg railway line was inaugurated, with one station each in Sibbesse and Hönze. The station building of Sibbesse has not been preserved, that of Hönze was converted into a residential building after the line was closed (from 1966) and can still be seen on the southern edge of the village on the street An der Bahn .

On March 1, 1974, the communities Hönze , Möllensen , Petze and Sibbesse merged to form the new community Sibbesse.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of the formerly independent municipality of Sibbesse comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region . The municipality was awarded the local coat of arms on February 11, 1938 by the President of the Province of Hanover . The district administrator from Alfeld presented it on April 13 of the same year.

Sibbesse coat of arms
Blazon : "On a blue shield a fallen silver sword with a golden pommel, accompanied on the right and left by an upright silver wolf tang ."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The oldest form of the village name is "Siegbrechtshusen" or "Sibechtsheim", which means something like home or house of Siegbrecht, d. H. Victory bringer or winner means. Hence the sword. However, since Sibbesse has been a border town since the earliest times ( Aringau - Flenithigau; Niedere Börde - Gelenberger Börde; Amt Gronau - Amt Winzenburg ), the old border symbol, the Wolfsangel, was included in the coat of arms.
