Dünninghausen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dünninghausen is a farming community in the east of the Beckum community . Around 180 people currently live there. Adjacent farmers are Holter in the north and Unterberg I in the south. In the east, the farmers share a border with Diestedde .

Origin of name

The name Dünninghausen developed from Dunninghusen. However, nothing is known more precisely about the original origin of the name.

Agriculture and industry

As the name suggests, Dünninghausen is characterized by agriculture. Furthermore, there is an extensive limestone mining area in the western part.

Structure today

Today there are only two full-time and a few part-time businesses in Dünninghausen. The limestone mining area was originally used by the “Werk Mersmann” cement works, which the Holcim Group acquired after a few changes of ownership. The factory site itself is still within the city of Beckum and not directly in Dünninghausen. In mid-2008, an industrial power plant to generate electricity by burning secondary fuels was planned on the company premises . However, after citizens' protests, this was prevented by the city council of Beckum by prohibiting changes to the land use. However, the plant has been permanently closed for several years. A subsequent use is being sought for this (as of 2017).

Infrastructure

Road traffic

In principle, Dünninghausen is located on Landstrasse 586 and is intersected by this in an easterly direction. Due to the increasing through traffic from the direction of Lippstadt to the Beckum motorway exit ( A 2 ), a bypass has been planned since the 1970s. This should relieve the Beckum town center. The route is planned along the railway line. The first construction phase and the bridge work have already been completed. The earthworks began in 2008. The first construction phase of the north-east bypass was inaugurated on August 21, 2009 (future name L 586n). The old route of the L 586 was temporarily closed to through traffic.

Rail transport

Dünninghausen is cut through by a rail connection of the Westphalian State Railway , which leads from the Sauerland via Lippstadt to Beckum. Passenger traffic ceased on May 31, 1975. Since then it has been used exclusively for freight transport. The Dünninghausen station was closed with the cessation of passenger traffic and has been used for other purposes since then. The railway line has been completely renovated since 2008.

Important buildings

Dünninghausen has a cath. Chapel belonging to the parish of St. Stephanus (Beckum) . Eve masses are currently mostly held monthly.

As the original restaurant, the country inn "Zur Pump" is located opposite the chapel. After a temporary use as a rental hall, it is used again as a restaurant.

The original school in Dünninghausen stopped teaching in the 1960s and 1970s. After a renovation, the original building now houses some apartments.
