history
Diestedde was first mentioned in 1136 as a Disteten . In 1419 the then Crassenstein Castle went to the Lords of Wendt , in 1570 today's castle was built, which was rebuilt in a classicistic style after 1800. In 1841 the Liesborn office was formed from the communities of Diestedde, Herzfeld, Liesborn and Wadersloh. However, it was divided up as early as 1844, from which the municipalities of Wadersloh and Diestedde emerged.
Since January 1, 1975, the former municipality of Diestedde has belonged to the municipality of Wadersloh on the occasion of a municipal reorganization.
Origin of the place name
The word Diestedde goes back to the existence of a Thing site. Thing is an old German expression for the place where a court or tribunal was held and the sentence was carried out. The Thing site in Diestedde is the "1000-year-old oak" tree near Crassenstein Castle. Even if the tree is most likely less than 1000 years old, trials were held on this tree in the Middle Ages and judgments were carried out (often by hanging on this oak).
Thing then became Thie in the language change and through a sound change from T to D the current name Diestedde was created.
