The quarter got its colloquial name from the centuries-old family company Dürkopp based in Bielefeld , which had its main building here.

Location and further subdivision

The quarter is to the east of the old town, bounded in the north by the composers' quarter of Detmolder Strasse and in the east by Teutoburger Strasse, which separates it from Untersieker and the eastern city center. In the north it is bordered by the Kesselbrink, one of the central squares of Bielefeld, and in the west by Niederwall, which form the border with the old and new towns.

One of the eastern areas of the Dürkoppviertel around the Georg-Rothgiesser-Park can, under certain circumstances, be understood as a separate district under the name “Dürkopp Tor 6”.

August-Bebel-Straße acts as the main traffic axis.

Two StadtBahn lines drive through the narrow streets of the district.

Line 4 (Universität - Dürkopp Tor 6) , which was extended from its final stop "Rathaus" to the quarter in spring 2019, also stops at August-Schröder-Straße and ends in the quarter at the stop "Dürkopp Tor 6" in the sub-district of the same name.

There is no bus traffic within the district.
