Home to the minute
The House at the Minute ( Dům U Minuty ) is house number 3 on the Old Town Square in Prague between the Old Town Hall and the House of the Golden Horn ( Dům U Zlatého rohu ). It is protected as a cultural monument.
history
The house was built as a late Gothic new building in the first half of the 15th century. It was quite small with a small yard and had two floors. In 1430 part of the neighboring house was attached to it. Before 1564 a lower third floor with a bezel was added. The sgraffito decorations were created in two phases, before 1600 and before 1615. They were removed in the course of a baroque transformation and restored in the 1920s. They show biblical episodes, scenes from Renaissance life and mythical images from ancient Greece.
The house served as a pharmacy. Franz Kafka lived in this house with his parents from 1889 to 1896, and all of his sisters were born here.
