D. Aubrey Moodie

Douglas Aubrey Moodie (born July 22, 1908 in Bells Corners, Nepean Township, Ontario ; † May 17, 2008 ) was Mayor of Nepean Township in Ontario from 1954 to 1969 and was better known as "Father of Nepean" ("Father of Nepean ").

Life

Moodie, a farmer, joined Nepean City Council as deputy mayor in 1950 and served in that position until he was appointed mayor four years later. He was a member of Nepean City Council from 1973 to 1976. In 1958, while he was mayor, some tax cuts were initiated to encourage building construction in the city. He also lobbied for the construction of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital.

Through January 2005, Moodie was living in an assisted living facility in Richmond, Ontario in good health. His autobiography, The Spirit of Nepean ( ISBN 0973335505 ), was published in 2003 with the help of Andrea McCormick. Moodie died on May 17, 2008 at the age of 99.

Honors

The D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate School was named in his honor.
