history

Today's DBZ weckruf magazin has its roots in the year 1912. It was the Bäckergilde Münster that applied for a master craftsman 's day to install their own specialist newspaper. Although nothing came of it at first, on the initiative of the Witten bakers' guild, the new trade journal was founded in 1913. The title has always lived up to its original name “wake-up call” - right at the beginning, when it came to the Sunday baking ban in bakeries and confectionery shops, the inflation after the First World War or the ban on encore.

Until 1935, the wake-up call could increasingly become the link between companies and the professional organization. During the time of National Socialism , however, the specialist newspaper fell victim to the co-ordination of the press. The Rheinische Bäcker- und Konditorenzeitung as well as the Westphalian wake-up call, both published by the baker's guild associations, were subordinated to the Reichsinnungsverband des bakery trade, which was established at the time.

After the end of the war, the North Rhine and Westphalia-Lippe bakers' guild associations jointly applied for a license for a specialist newspaper. On October 1, 1948, they were allowed to publish newsletters every fortnight, and additional authorization from the military government made it possible for North Rhine and Westphalia-Lippe to publish their own editions - of course, under the control of the occupation authorities, which kept an eye on that Daily news or other editorial content found their way into the paper, but rather ordinances, orders, orders and other references to the food industry. The military government received two specimen copies of each issue.

At the first general meeting of the Westphalia-Lippe bakers' guild after the war, the establishment of the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Bäckerverlag was unanimously approved. From 1949 the editorial part of the wake-up call could be easily expanded and received the license to publish it weekly. As a result, the wake-up call developed into a specialist magazine that “has seen ups and downs, developments and inventions in our industry up close,” as Peter Becker, President of the Central Association of German Bakers' Crafts e. V., wrote in his greeting for the centenary in 2013.

Since January 1974 the trade journal has had the title Deutsche Bäcker Zeitung Weckruf - it had already found its readership all over Germany. In November 1976, the Berlin Bakers' Guild became a partner in the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Bäckerverlag, which was renamed the Deutsche Bäckerverlag GmbH in 1984. As a result, the trade journal became an association organ for various associations in Germany. Since 1980 the front pages have appeared in four colors, often with new pastry ideas on appropriately colored recipe studio. Many products were created in the newspaper's own DBZ baking studio. The supplements Training Info (AI) and Frau in der Bäckerei (FiB) were created in 1984. The yearbook with all the addresses of the baker's and the most important craft organizations had also been published since 1948.

With German reunification , the Deutsche Bäcker Zeitung - Weckruf was able to attract new readers in eastern Germany. At the first iba after the unification, the DBZ presented itself with a new layout in 1992. A year later, the monthly special issue DBZ Spezial was launched on various topics. The DBZ magazine , which appears monthly, developed from it , alongside which the weekly edition DBZ weckruf appeared.

One change brought about a change in 2002 with the purchase of the Deutsche Bäcker Zeitung by BackMedia Verlagsgesellschaft mbH. Trond Patzphal became the publisher. In July 2012 the DBZ magazin and the weekly edition DBZ weckruf merged to form the new DBZ weckruf magazin, which has been published every two weeks since then. At the beginning of 2014, BackMedia Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, Bochum, was merged with INGER Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, Osnabrück . The DBZ weckruf magazin, like the sister magazine Bäckerzeitung with Bäckerwelt, Artisan and Coffee Business, will continue to be produced from Bochum. Karsten Runge has been the publishing director and editor-in-chief since the beginning of 2014. With the changes that pose challenges for the German bakery trade, DBZ weckruf magazin also repositioned itself in January 2014. In addition to the practice-oriented focus in the areas of producing and selling, the categories orientation and leadership have also been added.
