The DB European Rail Service GmbH (DB ERS GmbH) was a 100% subsidiary of DB Fernverkehr AG .

DB ERS GmbH is headquartered in Dortmund . There are also branches in Berlin , Hamburg and Munich . The branch in Dresden was closed in 2009, the branch in Dortmund in 2015 (although the head office is still formally based in Dortmund).

DB ERS GmbH was until the timetable change on 11 December 2016 CityNightLine and car train of the Deutsche Bahn responsible for the operation (= safety and technology of the train) and sales (= ticket inspection and sale on the train) and the Service (= hotels on the train).

In 2010, an annual average of 514 people and in 2011 an annual average of 490 people were employed at DB ERS GmbH.

On December 1, 2015, the management of DB ERS announced that as part of the suspension of motorail and night train traffic by Deutsche Bahn, the company's main business area will disappear from December 2016. The current 280 employees (as of December 1, 2015) are expected to be transferred to the DB jobs service when DB ERS ceases to operate.
