The DEZ is a shopping center in the Amras district of Innsbruck . It was built in 1970 as the first shopping center in Austria and belongs to the German ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co. KG . The operating company is DEZ Shopping Centers GmbH .
history
In 1970 Walter Hess opened the first shopping center in Austria with the DEZ in Innsbruck. The Woolworth department store, which has been integrated since 1979, was purchased for the general renovation of the DEZ in 2004. As of 2005, Hamburg-based ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co. KG took a 25 percent stake in the shopping center as part of an equity increase. 75 percent of the shares remained with the Hess private foundation . Further renovations, conversions and expansions followed until 2008. On January 1, 2012, ECE took over the shopping center by increasing its existing stake from 25 to 50.1 percent.
On July 1, 2016, the building had to be evacuated after it was flooded in a storm.
