The Warnow class is a series of Project 1344 tug boats designed and built for the Volksmarine . In 1990 the German Navy took over some units as class 660. The class is named after the river of the same name .

Construction and delivery

The tug boats were built by VEB Yachtwerft Berlin . The first seven units ( hull number 01-07) were delivered to the Volksmarine in 1969. The hull number 08 was sold to VEB Schiffswerft Neptun in 1970 as a seal . The next twelve units (hull number 09-20) were put into service in 1973 and the last boat of the class (hull number 21) in 1974. During their service with the People's Navy, the tug boats had no ship names and were only referred to by their ship identification .

description

The Warnow class is as trailing boat and the passengers on inland waters , Haff and Bodden designed. The steel hull is divided into four watertight compartments by three bulkheads : aft peak , engine room , crew rooms and forepeak . The drive consists of a marine diesel engine of type 6 VD14.5 / 12-1 SRW from VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Schönebeck , which acts on a fixed propeller with 79.4 kW. The speed reached is 8  km / h when towing and 15 km / h when driving alone. The number of passengers is limited to 25 and a light ice sheet up to 0.05 m thick can be broken without passengers. The tug boats of the Dahme class (project 1345) are an almost identical variant for inland navigation , but without passenger capacity.

Whereabouts

After the reunification of Germany , six units (construction numbers 03, 09, 11-13 and 17) were initially taken over by the German Navy. Of these, only construction number 12 is still in service as Warnow (Y 1659) for the Warnemünde naval base . Six other boats have been sold to Finland and some of them have been converted into motor yachts . Other units are / were used by private companies or have since been scrapped .
