The Havel-Class (also Havel icebreaker ) is an ice-breaker type , of the nine units for the GDR - inland waterways have been built.

Design and construction

The Havel ice breakers were specially designed for the canals and inland lakes and were built from 1967 to 1978 at the VEB shipyards in Aken and Genthin .

The icebreakers are driven by a marine diesel engine of the type SKL 6 NVD 36.1 U, which acts with 224  kW on a fixed propeller.

So that the ships can also be used as push boats during the ice-free period , they were retrofitted with appropriate devices ( push shoulders).

units

With the commissioning, the icebreakers were subordinated to the technical fleet and thus to the waterway authorities. After the reunification of Germany , all units were taken over by the waterways and shipping authorities.
