The Alerta is a reconnaissance ship that has been in service with the Armada Española since 1993 . Before that, the ship was used as Jasmund for the East German People's Navy from 1985 to 1990 .

Story as Jasmund

The ship was built as the seventh unit of the Darss class by the Neptun shipyard in Rostock . Compared to the offshore utilities in Project 602, the Jasmund had an extended deck structure , a radome aft and a mast with antenna technology instead of the ship's crane . As a replacement for the hydrograph , which had already been decommissioned in 1983 , the Jasmund was put into service on May 15, 1985 for the Fourth Flotilla .

The Jasmund 1986 with the original equipment

The Jasmund was specially equipped for telecommunications reconnaissance . Under the radome at the stern were facilities that were only available to Main Section III of the Ministry of State Security . In the event of mobilization , three 25mm / L70 double mounts were provided on the forecastle and behind the chimney .

In 1987 and 1988/89 the ship was converted and modernized. A second radar system, one was additionally installed diesel-electric auxiliary drive and two starters for Strela-2 - aircraft missiles .

As of spring 1990, the Jasmund was no longer operational due to a lack of personnel, and when the reunification took place , it was not taken over by the German Navy . An initially planned sale to Ecuador did not materialize and so the Spanish Navy was able to purchase the trailer in 1992.

Story as Alerta

The ship was officially taken over as Alerta on December 6, 1992 and transferred to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for conversion . There the large radar system and the radome were removed, the electronic equipment and armament were adapted to Spanish standards and the Russian marine diesel engine was replaced by a Type 3606 from Caterpillar .

Since it went into service on July 15, 1993, the Alerta has been part of the forces ( Fuerza de Acción Marítima ) of the Spanish Navy and is stationed in Cartagena . In the coming years, the reconnaissance ship is to be replaced by a new Meteoro class .
