Lists on the subject

The Dongfeng 25 ( DF-25 ) is a mobile, land-based medium -range ballistic missile of the People's Republic of China .

development

Development of the DF-25 began in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the program stood still several times. Surprisingly, the first rockets were handed over to the People's Liberation Army for testing in 2000 . Even after that, much of the further development remained in the dark. Full operational readiness for action was presumably achieved in 2005. Little is known about the DF-25 outside of China. The first pictures and descriptions did not appear until 2007.

technology

The DF-25 is a two-stage solid-fuel missile that uses the first two propulsion stages of the CSS-9 ICBM as well as a new warhead section for conventional warheads. It is controlled by means of an inertial navigation platform coupled with a GPS . Depending on the shooting distance, a precision ( CEP ) of 100 to 300 meters (m) is achieved.

The DF-25 rocket is housed in a launch and transport container that is installed on the WS2500 10x8 truck . The system is road-mobile and therefore difficult to localize, which makes preventive control very difficult. A minimum reaction time from the drive to the rocket launch of 10 to 15 minutes is achieved. With the mobile system, the rockets can be launched directly in the base or on the street.

The missile can be equipped with a conventional warhead weighing up to 2000 kg. Nuclear equipment is not provided for the DF-25. A different range is achieved depending on the payload. With a payload of 1000 kg, the DF-25 has a range of up to 3000 km. With the full payload of 2000 kg, the range is 1700 km.

status

The DF-25 was designed for use in Asia ( India , Russia , Taiwan , Vietnam and Korea ). Other areas of operation are probably targets in the South China Sea . With the DF-25, it is possible, in the event of territorial disputes, to set the islands in this area (e.g. the Spratly Islands and the Senkaku Islands ) with massive fire within a short period of time.
