The German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy e. V. (DGKJP) is a scientific association of specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy and other scientists working in this field in Germany . Its aim is to promote research and the dissemination of research results in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, neurology , psychosomatics and the psychology of children and adolescents as well as curative education .
At regular intervals, the specialist society creates and revises guidelines for the treatment of psychiatric illnesses in children and adolescents. The professional society is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies ( AWMF ).
President is Hans-Henning Flechtner (as of February 2018). The company is based in Berlin .
history
In 1939, the Child Psychiatric Working Group was initiated in Leipzig and the German Society for Child Psychiatry and Curative Education was founded at the Vienna Congress in 1940 .
During the Nazi era, child and adolescent psychiatry was also involved in the euthanasia program and involved in the murder of thousands of children with intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
In the old federal states, the first post-war symposium of child psychiatrists took place in Marburg in 1949. The first chair was founded in Marburg in 1954. In 1950 the company was re-established as the “German Association for Youth Psychiatry”.
In 1973 the name of the society was changed to German Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and in 1976 to German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry .
By resolution of the general meeting on September 15, 1994, the name of the professional association was the German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy . With the decision of the general assembly on December 4, 2003, the name of the professional society is now the German Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy . In the new federal states, until reunification, child and adolescent psychiatry also included neurology, which was expressed in the name of the subject "child neuro-psychiatry". The first chair for child neuropsychiatry was founded in 1958 by Prof. Göllnitz in Rostock. On November 30, 1962, the section for child neuropsychiatry was established under the umbrella of the Society for Psychiatry and Neurology of the GDR. In 1969, training in child neuropsychiatry became mandatory. In 1974 the sub-specialization for child neuropsychiatry was legally established, which could be acquired by specialists in pediatrics and neurology / psychiatry. The journal "Psychiatrie, Neurology, Medical Psychology" served as a scientific organ.
The DGKJP has commissioned a medical-historical research into the history of the specialist society during National Socialism. The research group started its work in July 2014.
Publications and work
The publication organ of the DGKJP is the journal for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy (ZKJPP).
In addition, guidelines and statements on topics relating to child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy are drawn up and published.
Together with the professional association of doctors for child and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatics and psychotherapy in Germany e. V. (BKJPP) and the Federal Working Group of Leading Clinic Doctors for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (BAG), the Achtung! Children's soul founded.
Commissions
Together with the two other youth psychiatric associations BKJPP and BAG KJPP, the association works in commissions to secure, improve, expand and consolidate the care of mentally ill children and their families.

Awards
The association awards the Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann Medal every two years for "services to the child in need" .
Every two years the Hermann Emminghaus Prize is also awarded to researchers from German-speaking Germany and abroad for fundamental scientific work on the development, diagnosis, prognosis or therapy of mental disorders in children and adolescents.
