The DIN standard DIN 31636 with the title “Transcription of the Hebrew Alphabet” is a standard for transliterating the Hebrew into the Latin script . The first version was released in 1982. A revised version had been in effect since February 2006 and had been worked on since 2002. The current version of the standard is the January 2011 edition.

It is applicable to all variants of Hebrew that are written with Hebrew letters.

Overall, this transcription is based on Anglo-American customs. For example, that is שׁ not with "sch", as usual in German, but transcribed with sh.

The Yiddish transcription follows the pronunciation of Yiddish as determined by the YIVO Institute.
