DJ Knick Neck (born November 15, 1973 in Brandenburg , real name Jens Rettig ) is a German DJ and music producer . In 1987, in what was then the GDR , he was inspired by the classic film Beat Street . With plastic records with whale singing from FRÖSI and old Schlager records he made his first scratch experiences on old GDR record players. His first own records such as Digital Underground, EPMD, Public Enemy, Gangstarr later inspired him to produce his own beats.

During all of his previous deejay and producer activities, the Potsdam native has warm-up with artists such as Advanced Chemistry , Islamic Force , Torch , Massive Töne , Das EFX , Grandmaster Flash , ODB , Budda Monk , Gangstarr , Afura , Freddy Fox and for Dela Soul prepares.

PDM posse

In 1990 he founded the formation "ACrewComesAlife" ("ACCA") together with Crystal K. A year later, the Potsdam bands “ACCA”, “JEWS AS CRUX”, “BASEMENT PROJEKT” and the “FRESH BOYS” formed PDM-POSSE. The remaining musicians then formed the PDM-POSSE, as we know them from the 1990s. The rappers Buzz TS, Crystal Klear and the DJ KS and DJ Knick Neck toured the east of the country, z. B. also as the opening act for "Advanced Chemistry".

The first publication appeared in 1993 on the first Berlin hip-hop sampler of the SWAT posse "VibraZone". In 1996 the PDM POSSE's debut album "MADSTOP" was released. At the same time, the “DA MASH” crew with rappers Poise, RAZ (aka. JoeRilla, Haudegen), DAVE Q. and producers Spinmaster KS and DJ Knick Neck formed from the PDM-POSSE environment.

In 1997 the next album was released under the title "PLUS & MINUS / DA MASH". In the same year the RUNEX & SOLOIST LP "NO SOFTENERS" is released, to which DJ Knick Neck added his musical note. In 1998 the last album of the PDM-POSSE "LAST EXTREMETIES" followed. Shortly afterwards the crew disbanded.

The years after that

From the early 1990s on, DJ Knick Neck rocked the turntables with Spinmaster KS from Potsdam and Berlin clubs. The first various German-language rap projects followed. Mention should be made of the tape "PDM-Channel 2000fm-Blowtime" published in 1999 by Mellow-Vibes-Records (Wildstyle-Shop Berlin). There were tracks from z. B. SMC, Joe Rilla, Damion Davis, Soloist, P.Smoove and many more

In 2000 Dj Knick Neck founded the (WWC) “Words Wrestler Crew” with MC Poise, Yanik, Tati and David Develist. Their first release can be heard on the first “Berlin Skillz” sampler. Also in 2000 the Spinmastaz crew was founded, a team of DJs with Knick Neck and KS at the top and u. a. D-Ice, DJ Node, DJ Marzn and DJ Zyklop. 2001 DJ Knick Neck & KS produce a remix for Zulu (Wildstyle) Ben's "2-component" single. Knick Neck produced further beats for the "1Deutige 2Deutheiten" -LP of the ANALPHABETEN, which appeared in the same year.

PDM Caravan Records

In the same year DJ Knick Neck, DJ ZYKLOP and DJ NODE got together and in July 2002 founded the Potsdam hip-hop label "PDM-CARAVAN-RECORDS". The label's first release is the album "CARAVANS RETURN" LP / CD. Underground artists such as Rhymez & Prok, Hecklah & Coch, David Develist, Dave Q, P-Smoove, ZM-Jay, Poise and others perform their lyrics on beats from DJ Knick Neck & KS. In the same year DJ Knick Neck and rapper CICERO collide and forge plans for a new project (BIG DEEL). In 2004 the album "Otaku - HipHop" was released, a sampler with beats by DJ Knick Neck, DJ KS

In 2006 DJ Knick Neck produced the "PDM-Bring it Back" sampler together with Prok (Rhymez & Prok). This was followed by some mix tapes, e.g. B. with Poise the Berlin hip-hop veteran “Daily Routine” Mixtape (2011). The album with Rhymez & Prok "Impulse" (2012), which is based entirely on soul samples and pays homage to the 1970s, follows. This was followed by the "48 hours" mixtape (2012) by rapper Prok, which he wrote and recorded completely in 48 hours, for free download.

On December 21, 2012, DJ Knick Neck released his album "Meine Stadt", on which he united the Potsdam hip-hop scene. In 2013 he released the album of Verler rapper Inspeckta "Roadtrip-I30" with whom he has been working for years on his label PDM-Caravan Records.
