DJ Paul (* 1977 in Memphis (Tennessee) ; real name Paul Duane Beauregard ) is an American rapper and music producer from Memphis, Tennessee. He is a half and founding member of the rap group Three 6 Mafia . He also won an Oscar for “Best Original Song” for It's Hard out Here for a Pimp for the film Hustle and Flow .

Life

DJ Paul began his musical career as a DJ , producer and rapper in his native Memphis in the early 1990s. He was a member of Dous The Serial Killaz with his brother Lord Infamous (Ricky Dunigan). They began handing out demo CDs in their neighborhood, school, and local stores. Her first album was called Portrait Of A Serial Killa and was released in 1992. At the same time, DJ Paul also released solo mixtapes (e.g. classics such as Volume 12 (Pts. 1 and 2) , Volume 15: For You Niggaz Wit 'Anna and Volume 16: 4 Da Summa of '94 ).

DJ Paul quickly made a name for himself as one of the top DJs and producers in south Memphis, hearing about another artist who was stirring up north Memphis at the time, Juicy J (Jordan Houston). They met, listened to mixtapes of each other and quickly noticed the parallels that lay between their music, and finally decided to bring their sounds together and form the "super group" The Backyard Posse (later known as the Triple Six Mafia). They started writing dark, creepy songs with a lot of bass and invited many later Backyard Posse members to rap on these songs with them. In 1994 Triple Six Mafia recorded one of today's biggest underground albums, Smoked Out Loced Out . The album was dominated by hardcore beats along with lyrics about violence, drugs and sex. In 1995 the group, which now consisted of eleven members (including Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black and Koopsta Knicca), changed its name to Three 6 Mafia and released their debut album Mystic Stylez . Due to the great underground success of this album, Three 6 Mafia signed a record deal and founded their own label Hypnotize Minds. By the late 1990s, the group released a variety of albums, which peaked at number 6 on the Billboard charts for the album When The Smoke Clears .

Together with Juicy J, DJ Paul made a huge impact on the rap industry and became the most important person in the rise of South Hip Hop to the level of East and West Coast music. Under his leadership, Three 6 Mafia went from a small underground phenomenon to a national empire. Today, in addition to Three 6 Mafia and his solo albums, he mainly produces his discoveries Project Pat, Gangsta Boo and La Chat, but also albums by well-known artists such as Ludacris , TI , Young Buck , Mike Jones , Ying Yang Twins and others.
