history

The bank was founded in 1961 as the “Loan Fund of the Churches and Church Institutions in the Diocese of Münster eGmbH ”. In 1974 the name was changed to “Loan Fund of the Parishes and Church Institutions in the Diocese of Münster eG”. In the same year it was renamed again, this time to the name "Kredithnskasse im Bistum Münster eG", before it was renamed in 1995 to "DKM Kredithnskasse Münster eG".

The DKM Loanhnskasse Münster eG is one of the youngest credit cooperatives in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1958, the diocesan synod suggested that "to promote the numerous and great church and charitable concerns, a central monetary compensation in mutual help and solidarity" should be brought into being. The foundation of the loan office of the parishes and church institutions in the diocese of Münster eG took place on January 24, 1961 in the Münster Collegium Borromaeum , on March 6, 1961 the entry in the register of cooperatives at the district court of Münster took place. The first members included 93 legal entities - the diocese of Münster, parishes and church institutions - and 17 private individuals.

The diocese of Münster hoped that the establishment of the loan fund would provide a range of services specially tailored to the needs of church customers. Major tasks in the 1960s were the rebuilding and rebuilding of churches and church facilities such as kindergartens and hospitals. The bank was and is responsible for processing payment transactions among the Catholic parishes in the diocese, the church associations, as well as the institutions, foundations and institutions of a church or charitable nature. Private individuals can also carry out their monetary transactions as well as their investments and loans via the DKM loan office, provided they are employed by the institutions of the Catholic Church.

The premises in the episcopal vicariate at the mirror tower in Münster, where the bank had started its business on April 1, 1961 with just under a dozen employees, soon proved to be inadequate. In 1969, the bank moved into new rented offices on Magdalenenstrasse. At the end of the 1976 financial year, all parishes and almost all institutions of the Catholic Church in the diocese belonged to the loan office; the number of members at that time was a good 2,300. In line with the increased business volume, the desire for own premises became more and more urgent. In the anniversary year of 1976, the 35 employees at that time were able to move into their own administration building on Horsteberg, right next to the cathedral in Münster. Nineteen years later, in 1995, the company moved again, this time to Breul, where there was enough space for further growth.

In the 1990s, the business district of the DKM loan fund Münster expanded to the north. From 1992 the parishes of the Diocese of Osnabrück were looked after, in 1995 the newly founded Archdiocese of Hamburg was added.

In the first quarter of a century of its existence, the bank provided its members with 3,443 loans totaling DM 891 million. In addition, almost DM 20 million in donations were made for church and social institutions during this period. The work of the church institutions was and is also supported with donations in kind.
