DLA Piper is one of the largest law firms in the world. According to its own information, DLA Piper generated global sales of US $ 2.63 billion in fiscal 2017. DLA Piper provides legal advice in more than 40 countries. DLA Piper consists of two partnerships , DLA Piper International LLP and DLA Piper LLP (US), which in turn are merged into DLA Piper Global in the legal form of a Swiss association .

history

DLA Piper emerged in 2005 from the merger of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich LLP ( San Diego / USA), DLA LLP (UK, 1996–2000 Dibb Lupton Alsop) and Piper Rudnick LLP. The latter was a merger of Piper & Marbury ( Baltimore ) and Rudnick & Wolfe ( Chicago ) in 1999.

While in Austria a long -established traditional law firm (with offices in many former crown lands ) was integrated with Weiss-Tessbach Rechtsanwälte GmbH , a different approach was chosen in Germany. There, DLA ended its cooperation with the law firm GÖRG Rechtsanwälte in 2004 and began to set up its own presence. After the opening of the Cologne office in September 2004, an office was opened in Hamburg in November 2004, and the Frankfurt office was added in October 2005. DLA Piper has had a branch in Munich since August 2007 and employs more than 500 people in Germany, including around 220 lawyers and tax consultants, 58 of whom have partner status. In Vienna , the only remaining Austrian location , there are more than 70 professionals.

Lobbying

DLA Piper acts as a lobbyist in relation to politics , in particular for the Lebanese Bankers Association, the arms manufacturer Raytheon and the drinks group Diageo . The most important topics are taxes, health care, insurance and international relations.
