DOKP ( D yrekcja O kręgowej K olei P aństwowych ; German: Regional Directorate of the State Railways ) was a high-rise building in Katowice , Poland . It was established as the regional directorate of the Polish State Railways (PKP) in the early 1970s in Katowice, right next to the Spodek on the al. Roździeńskiego 1 built by Jerzy Gottfried . Most recently it belonged to the PKP and housed the building department of the state railways. Together with the Spodek, Rondo and the Superjednostka opposite and the monument to the Silesian uprisings, it formed the northern end of downtown Katowice. In November 2013 the building was sold to TDJ Estate for PLN 29 million . In 2015 the building was dismantled.

Use of the building

DOKP high-rise, “Spodek” and Rondo

From 1974 to 1975 the building was used by Dyrekcja Okręgowa Kolei Państwowych . Then it was used by the Śląska Dyrekcja Okręgowa Kolei Państwowych from 1975 to 1998. From 1998 to 2001 the building housed the Dyrekcja Okręgu Infrastruktury Kolejowej and Sector Przewozów Towarowych PKP . Since 2001 the building has been used by various PKP departments.

plans

DOKP during the cancellation

PKP planned the renovation and expansion of the building together with the project development company Hines Polska. In addition to the existing high-rise, a second building with a height of 125 meters was to be built. The architect Helmut Jahn was responsible for the redesign . The project was called "Rondo Towers".

However, Helmut Jahn's plans are no longer to be implemented. Instead, the building was torn down due to its poor state of preservation, and a new building is to take its place. The demolition began in January 2015 and was carried out in a conventional manner.
