history

The company was formed in 2000 from the merger of HICOM ('Heavy Industries Corporation of Malaysia Berhad') and Diversified Resources Bhd.

DRB-HICOM sold in 2001, the airline AirAsia for the symbolic price of one ringgit to Tony Fernandes .

In 2012, DRB-HICOM took over the automobile manufacturer Proton , making it the largest automobile company in Malaysia.

The group also includes the automobile plants Euromobil , Isuzu Malaysia , Isuzu HICOM Malaysia and HICOM Automotive Manufacturers (Malaysia) , the motorcycle plant HICOM-HONDA Manufacturing and the armaments manufacturer DRB-HICOM Defense Technologies (DEFTECH).

In 2016, DRB-HICOM had 60,000 employees.
