Directory Service Markup Language

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The task of the Directory Service Markup Language , also known as DSML , is to make the information of directory services available for e-business and e-commerce via XML . This enables easier data exchange between systems.

history

The DSML initiative came from the following companies: Bowstreet , Netscape , IBM , Microsoft , Novell , Oracle and Sun . Many other companies are now supporting this initiative.

Versions

DSMLv1 only describes the data structures of directory services. Search and change operations are described in DSMLv2. The aim is to standardize access to data from directory services.

A draft version 2 has been published by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards . However, due to a lack of resources, research made slow progress until Novell submitted its research results to the working group as part of DirXML .
