GDR ship revision and classification

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DDR Ship inspection and classification (DSRK) was the ship's classification society of the GDR . As a state body, it was subordinate to the Ministry of Transport. The seat of the authority was Zeuthen near Berlin .

history

After the Second World War , Germanischer Lloyd resumed the classification of new ships in occupied Germany. In the SBZ , the employees of the former Berlin headquarters took on this task. In April 1950, the GDR founded the German Ship Revision and Classification as its own classification society in the form of an institution under public law with its seat in Potsdam . The DSRK, initially based on the regulations of Germanischer Lloyd, immediately took over its entire scope of duties and responsibilities and classified the new ships that were mainly built as reparations for the Soviet Union . Germanischer Lloyd, whose income in East Germany fell significantly, closed its Berlin office in 1952. In 1960, the German ship inspection and classification was directly subordinated to the state administration and converted into a state body.

The DSRK became a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) in 1968 . In 1973 the name was changed to GDR Ship Revision and Classification . In 1974, the cooperation with Germanischer Lloyd, which had been active in the GDR again since 1960, was enshrined in a reciprocity agreement. Shortly before German reunification , the DSRK was separated from the GDR Ministry of Transport in September 1990 and incorporated into Germanischer Lloyd, and the inspections of both companies were combined.

tasks

The DSRK carried out the classification of all vessels, components, equipment and facilities subject to classification as well as the construction supervision and testing of the vessels built or repaired in the GDR. She was responsible for their monitoring and revision and checked materials, devices, machines and components subject to acceptance for quality, construction and function. It set the freeboard , calibrated inland vessels and issued the relevant certificates. She also checked the design and classification documents and checked compliance with international classification regulations. Her main tasks included the development and publication of design, building, testing, classification and revision regulations. The DSRK kept the class register for shipping in the GDR.
