The DTE Energy Music Theater is a modern amphitheater about 40 miles from Detroit , Michigan .
History and use
The amphitheater, built and opened in 1972 by the Nederlander Organization , has a capacity of 15,274 spectators (7,202 seats, 8,072 more on the premises). It was known as the Pine Knob Music Theater from 1972 to 2001 before DTE Energy, a subsidiary of Detroit Edison , secured the naming rights to the building for $ 10 million. International greats in music history such as Def Leppard , Judas Priest , Eric Clapton , Bob Dylan , Diana Ross , Linda Ronstadt and Peter Frampton have performed on the event site .
On June 25, 1972, the amphitheater opened with a performance by David Cassidy . The first evening concert was played by Andy Williams two days later . At the time of opening, the Pine Knob was the largest amphitheater in the United States. At that time it held 12,500 people.
