Daciana Octavia Sârbu (born January 15, 1977 in Arad ) is a Romanian politician and former member of the European Parliament . In the course of Romania's admission to the European Union , she was a member of the European Parliament from January 1, 2007 until the end of the 8th electoral term , first as a representative of the Partidul Social Democrat , then as an independent and finally as a representative of PRO România. In the European Parliament she was a member of the Socialist Group until 2009 and then of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

From 2014 to 2019 she was Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and a member of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ).

Sârbus father is the multiple minister Ilie Sârbu , she is married to the Romanian politician Victor Ponta .
