Ancient Dadan (also Dedan , early North Arabic and Old South Arabic ddn ) was located in today's oasis of Al-'Ula , about 150 km southwest of Tayma in northwestern Saudi Arabia in the province of Medina and was on the Frankincense Route . Dadan is mentioned several times in the Old Testament .

Dadan was the capital of the ancient Lihyan Empire . Due to its importance for the frankincense trade, it was at least since the 2nd century BC. Until the early 1st century BC. Under the rule of the South Arabian kingdom of Ma'in .
