geography
location
The Eggenkopf rises in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park on the western roof of the Rothaargebirge main ridge in the Oberhundem district of the Kirchhundem community . About 6.5 km (as the crow flies ) east- south- east of their eponymous core town, it is located between the districts of Oberhundem in the north, Rüspe in the east-south-east, Heinsberg in the south-west, Marmecke in the west and Rinsecke in the north-west, the latter being the closest village. To the northeast is the Westerberg ( 662.1 m ) and southwest of the Milsenberg ( 669.8 m ).
Natural allocation
The Eggenkopf belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Westrothaarhöhen (333.4) to the natural area Westliche (Rüsper) Rothaar (333.41), with northwest being in the main unit Südsauerländer Bergland (336 2 ) and in the subunit Südsauerländer Rothaarvorhöhen (336 2 .5) the natural area Hundemgrund (Hundemtal; 336 2 .53) connects.
Rhine-Weser watershed and flowing waters
The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the summit of the Eggenkopf and thus through the amusement park : The water of all flowing waters , such as the small Rinsecke, which rises on its north flank in the park and flows in a north-westerly direction, and the Kaltenborn , which flows into the Marmecke , reaches the Rhine through the Hundem , Lenne and Ruhr . In contrast, the water of the brooks running south-east, like that of the Röspe (mostly also called Schwarzbach ), which passes the mountain top to the south- east and which is fed south of the Eggenkopf by the small Kattmecke , flows through the Eder and Fulda into the Weser .
Protected areas
To the southeast and south of the Eggenkopf are the nature reserve Schwarzbachsystem with Haberg and Krenkeltal ( CDDA -Nr. 165492; designated 1961; 3.12 km² ) and an area-wide fauna-flora-habitat area of the same name (FFH-Nr. 4915- 302). Around the elevation are areas of the landscape protection area Kreis Olpe (CDDA no. 345041; 1988; 262.87 km²).
Leisure, hiking and traffic
The amusement park Panorama-Park Sauerland Wildpark is located on the northern flank of the Eggenkopf and on its summit, as well as on the northeastern neighbor Westerberg with the Rhine-Weser Tower observation tower there . The Rothaarsteig runs along the Röspe to the south-east, past the elevation .
North-east past the Eggenkopf, the country road 553 , built from 1881 to 1884 as "Hundem-Eder-Provinzialstraße", leads curvy from Oberhundem in the north-west, passing the Rhine-Weser tower , through Rüspe to the Erndtebrücker district Röspe in the south-east. District road 22, which runs roughly in an east-west direction, branches off from this road, which touches the entrance to the leisure park around 600 m north of the summit and then runs to the Kirchhundem district of Rinsecke.
