The Milsenberg near Rinsecke in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Olpe is 670.3  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Rothaar Mountains .

The Milsenberg is located on the western roof of the Rothaargebirge main ridge in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park in the district of Kirchhundem - about 6 km southeast of its core town. Its summit rises between the districts of Rinsecke (around 1.8 km north), Heinsberg (around 2 km south-southwest), Albaum (around 3.3 km west) and Marmecke (around 2.1 km north-west).

The high elevations around the summit region of the wooded Milsenberg are above the 650 m height line in north-south direction a maximum of 1.2 km long and in northeast-south-west direction up to 600 m wide. About 200 m east of the mountain summit is a transmitter and 1.2 km (as the crow flies ) northeast of the summit is the Eggenkopf with the Panorama Park Sauerland Wildlife Park .

Natural allocation

The Milsenberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Westrothaarhöhen (333.4) to the natural area Westliche (Rüsper) Rothaar (333.41), with the natural area in the west Brachthäuser Hohe Waldberge (333.40) and in the north in the main unit Südsauerländer Bergland (336 2 ) and in the subunit Südsauerländer Rothaarvorhöhen (336 2 .5) the natural area Hundemgrund ( Hundemtal ; 336 2 .53) connect.

Rhine-Weser watershed and flowing waters

The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the summit of the Milsenberg : the water of the Marmecke , which rises northwest of the summit and is fed by the Kattenborn , and that of the Heinsberger Bach , which passes the mountain to the west as a tributary of the Albaumer Bach , flows through the Hundem , Lenne and Ruhr ultimately westward into the Rhine ; on the other hand that of the Kattmecke , which runs east of the mountain, flows through the Röspe (mostly also called Schwarzbach ) and Eder and Fulda, ultimately north-east into the Weser .

Protected areas

To the east, the landscape of the Milsenberg falls into the nature reserve Schwarzbachsystem with Haberg and Krenkeltal ( CDDA -Nr. 165492; designated 1961; 3.12 km² ), which covers the whole  area with a fauna-flora-habitat area of ​​the same name (FFH No. 4915-302). The mountain is located in the landscape protection area Kreis Olpe (CDDA no. 345041; 1988; 262.87 km²).

Traffic and walking

West past the Milsenberg runs along the Heinsberger Bach the national road  713, which connects with Albaum Heinsberg. A few kilometers north of the mountain, the country road 553 , which passes the neighboring Eggenkopf , runs curvy from Oberhundem in the northwest, passing the Rhein-Weser Tower , through Rüspe to the Erndtebrücker district Röspe in the southeast. District road  22, which runs roughly in an east-west direction, branches off from this road, which touches the entrance of the Panorama-Park Sauerland Wildpark around 1.6 m (as the crow flies) north-northeast of the summit and then runs to the Kirchhundem districts of Rinsecke and Marmecke. From these roads you can walk to the Milsenberg on forest paths and paths that partly share the route with the Rothaarsteig that runs close to the mountain .
