Medina ( Arabic المدينة المنورة, DMG al-Madīna al-munawwara ) is one of the 13 provinces of Saudi Arabia . It is located in the west of the country. Medina has 2,061,383 inhabitants (as of 2015), the area of ​​the province is 151,990 km². The population density is 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. Medina borders clockwise on the provinces of Tabuk , Ha'il , al-Qasim , ar-Riyad and Mecca , as well as the Red Sea .

The capital of the province is Medina , which is also the holiest place of Islam after Mecca . Other large cities are Yanbuʿ al-Bahr and Badr Hunain . Provincial governor is Faisal ibn Salman Al Saud .
