Mecca ( Arabic مكة المكرّمة, DMG Makka al-Mukarrama ) is one of the 13 provinces of Saudi Arabia . It is located in the west of the country. The province of Mecca has approx. 8.1 million inhabitants (2015), the area of ​​the province is 153,128 km². This makes Mecca the most populous province of Saudi Arabia. The population density is 53 inhabitants per square kilometer. Mecca is bordered clockwise by the provinces of Medina , Riyadh , Asir, and Baha .

The capital of the province is Mecca , the holiest place of Islam . Jeddah is the largest city in the province, other large cities are Ta'if and al-Hawiyya . Provincial governor is Chalid ibn Faisal Al Saud .

According to the census, there were around 4.1 million Saudis and 2.8 million foreigners living in the province in 2010. This corresponds to a ratio of 60% Saudis and 40% foreigners.
